New condition set up for renewed submissions in the MAESTRO funding opportunity

New condition set up for renewed submissions in the MAESTRO funding opportunity

Beginning in 2022, the MAESTRO competition will introduce a new requirement by the NCN Board for individuals who have led or are leading a MAESTRO project and plan to submit another application in that competition.

Starting from the MAESTRO 14 call, which is planned to be announced in June 2022 and closed on September 15, 2022, in case of a wish to submit an application in which a person who was not yet a Principal Investigator in projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and who was or was at the time of the application a manager of a MAESTRO project financed under earlier editions of this call, a new requirement will be introduced concerning submitting an application by this person in competitions organized by the ERC.

At the stage of submission of the application to NCN, the project manager will be required to submit:

  1. information on application submitted to ERC within the last 5 years, before the year of MAESTRO application submission to NCN (for MAESTRO 14 - from 2017,
  2. in case of Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, Synergy competition, Evaluation report or document confirming qualification of the application to the second stage of the ERC evaluation (if the substantive assessment is not yet completed),
  3. for the Proof of Concept competition, Evaluation report.

The new requirement means that an individual who has served or is serving as a Principal Investigator on a MAESTRO project and who plans to submit a proposal to this competition in 2022 and beyond must demonstrate submission of a proposal in which he or she is named as a Principal Investigator in any of the ERC competitions announced by the agency in 2017 and beyond. Prior to submitting a MAESTRO application, the application submitted to the ERC must have passed the formal evaluation and received a merit rating of at least in Stage I of the evaluation.

An application submitted to the ERC does not have to overlap thematically with an application planned for submission to the MAESTRO competition.

The announcement is published early enough so that MAESTRO project leaders who plan to submit a proposal to this competition in 2022 and beyond can meet this condition.
