The call is addressed at doctoral school students or individuals who have initiated PhD dissertation proceedings at a Polish institution authorised to award PhD degrees.

The following proposals may be submitted under the call:

  • Proposals may be submitted to the call covering basic research performed to support the PhD dissertation in any of 25 NCN panels within the three core areas: HS – Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; ST – Physical Sciences and Engineering; NZ – Life Sciences.
  • The applicant must include a document confirming that the applicant is a doctoral school student or has initiated PhD dissertation proceedings;  
  • Proposals shall have a foreign fellowship of 3 to 6 month planned at a selected research institution in one of the countries from the List of countries where foreign fellowship can be planned under the ETIUDA call for proposals (Annex 1 to the terms and regulations of the ETIUDA call for proposals set forth in NCN Council Resolution No 128/2019 of 12 December 2019) and include document confirming approval by the mentor from the research institution hosting the foreign fellowship.
  • The applicant must not be a former winner of an ETIUDA call.

Forms of funding:

  • Doctoral scholarships under the ETIUDA 8 call shall include:

a) scholarship,
b) funds to cover the applicant’s living expenses at a foreign research institution hosting the foreign fellowship,
c) funds to cover the travel expenses to and from the foreign research institution hosting the foreign fellowship.

  • Doctoral scholarship of PLN 5,000 per month planned for the period of writing a PhD dissertation, which cannot be less than 6 months and more than 12 months.
  • Funds to cover the applicant’s living expenses at a foreign research institution hosting the foreign fellowship are flat-rate funds of PLN 12,000 per month, multiplied by the percentage correction rate set for a given country, according to Annex 1 to the terms and regulations of the ETIUDA call for proposals set forth in NCN Council Resolution No 128/2019 of 12 December 2019).
  • Funds to cover the travel expenses to and from the foreign research institution hosting the foreign fellowship, are flat-rate funds of PLN 1,000 to PLN 10.000 (according to Annex 2 to the terms and regulations of the ETIUDA call for proposals set forth in NCN Council Resolution No 128/2019 of 12 December 2019).
  • The applicant must have a foreign fellowship of 3 to 6 months planned at a selected research institution and complete it while collecting the scholarship or within 12 months thereafter.
  • The applicant must undertake to earn a PhD degree within 12 months of the scholarship end date and no earlier than 6 months from the scholarship start date.
  • The start date for funding a doctoral scholarship is 1 October 2020.
  • Where the obligations laid down in terms and conditions of the call are not met, the funding disbursed by the National Science Centre as the doctoral scholarship may have to be returned in its entirety.

In addition, in order to avoid double financing of the same activities from different sources, e.g. from the PRELUDIUM and ETIUDA programs, please pay attention to the scope of planned expenses, especially in relation to the costs of travel and stay abroad.

Internal regulations of the Jagiellonian University:

In accordance with the Jagiellonian University Rector’s Directive No. 56 on July 11, 2016 on the rules of procedure for the preparation and implementation at the JU of projects financed from external sources, researchers interested in participating in the call should submit to the CAWP:

  • until 2 March 2020 a working version of the application sent in a PDF file to the address of the CAWP call supervisor;  ,
  • until 9 March 2020 submit at CAWP:

1) the final version of the proposal in one copy signed by the applicant and by the Head of the Unit / Dean of the appropriate Faculty in which the project will be carried out,
2) document confirming that the applicant is a doctoral school student or has initiated PhD dissertation proceedings in form of a copy of the resolution of the organizational unit council or a copy of the applicant's initiation of the PhD proceedings,
3) document in English confirming approval by the mentor from the research institution hosting the foreign fellowship,
4) generated and printed from the OSF system, the document titled  “The confirmation of submitting the proposal by the applicant”  signed by the applicant,
5) generated and printed from the OSF system  document titled  “The confirmation of submitting the proposal by Head of the entity/ authorised representative”  and sent in PDF file,
6) a printed and signed Project Registration Form, constituting Annexe 2e to the abovementioned Regulations available at www.cawp.uj.edu.pl "Projects" tab --> "For applicants" -->"Rules for project preparation at the Jagiellonian University" of  „Open calls” tab --> „National Science Center Calls”.

The above-mentioned terms should be treated as final.

 

Out of concern for the quality of submitted project applications please consult applications and submit documents to the CAWP in earlier dates than mentioned above.

 

Sending the application by the ZSUN/OSF system is an irreversible operation, making it impossible to make subsequent changes. Therefore, the electronic application should be sent only after obtaining the signatures on the Confirmation of submitting the proposal under an NCN call by Head of the entity/ authorised representative”

The above document, signed with the electronic signature by the JU authorities, will be sent back to you by the CAWP call supervisor to the indicated e-mail addresses.
