The European Commission has announced a call for proposals within the Horizon 2020 Program

Subject of the call: 

I would like to kindly inform you that on September 13, 2018, the European Commission announced a call for proposals within the Horizon 2020 Program, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (call ID: MSCA-ITN-2019) for projects aimed at comprehensive training for the early-stage researchers, including in the framework of doctoral studies  carried out by international and interdisciplinary research teams in cooperation with the non-academic sector.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN Action is a grant for institutions, intended to support innovative training networks that serve the career development of young  scientists, including PhD students.

Comprehensive and complementary training programs can be implemented by a consortium of several institutions from different countries and usually different sectors (universities, research institutes, enterprises, banks, hospitals, etc.) under three types of projects:

  • European Training Networks (ETN): at least 3 institutions from 3 different member countries and / or associated with H2020 offering a joint and complementary training program based on individual research projects carried out by accepted early-stage researchers.

  • European Industrial Doctorates (EID): at least 2 institutions from 2 different member countries and / or associated with H2020 and 2 different sectors offering doctoral studies, in which a PhD student must spend at least 50% of the time in the non-academic sector (emphasis on the participation of enterprises). One of the institutions must have rights to confer doctoral degrees.

  • European Joint Doctorates (EJD): at least 3 institutions from 3 different member countries and / or associated with H2020, entitled to confer doctoral degrees offering a joint doctoral program and awarding a joint / dual doctorate.

Program rules:

  • The project implementation period can be up to 48 months.
  • ESRs - Early Stage Researchers - will be employed on an employment contract by institutions for a period of 3 to 36 months.
  • ESR - a scientist of every nationality who has no PhD at the time of enrolment and has less than four years of scientific experience.
  • At the time of enrolment  the researcher may not stay in the country of the host institution for more than 12 months during the last 3 years (mobility rule).

  • The projects may concern all scientific fields;  the inter-and multidisciplinarity approach and cooperation between the academic sector and the non-academic sector is highly appreciated.

Financial terms and eligible costs:

The co-financing level of the project is 100%.

Institution receives financial resources to cover:

  • Researcher’s personal costs:

        Monthly living allowance:  3270 EUR x country-specific correction coefficient (75,5% for Poland)

        Monthly mobility allowance: 600 EUR

        Monthly family allowance: 500 EUR

  • Institution’s costs

        Trainings and research: 1800 EUR / month

        Management and indirect costs: 1200 EUR / month

Proposals submission:

only electronically via the Participant Portal. The persons applying in the call must indicate in the Participant Portal a call supervisor at CAWP as a JU contact person.

Jagiellonian University internal regulations:

In accordance with the Jagiellonian University Rector’s Directive No. 56 on July 11, 2016 on the rules of procedure for the preparation and implementation at the JU of projects financed from external sources, researchers interested in participating in the call should submit to the CAWP:

  • until 4 January 2019:
    • ​printed and signed  Project Registration Form and Vat Form Eligibility
    • Draft proposal (can be electronic version submitted as a PDF file to the call supervisor at CAWP)
  • until 11 January 2019: the final version of the proposal in one copy, signed by the applicant and by the Head of the Unit in which the project will be carried out.

The proposal can be submitted under the condition of its approval by the JU Vice-Rector and the JU Bursar on the Project Registration Form.

Out of concern for the quality of submitted proposals we encourage you to consult applications and submit documents to the CAWP in earlier dates than mentioned above.
