Funding institution: National Science Center

MAESTRO is a funding opportunity designed for advanced researchers wanting to conduct pioneering research, including interdisciplinary research which is important for the development of science. Projects within this funding scheme should surpass the current state of knowledge, lead to the creation of a new paradigm, or forge pathways to new frontiers in that field. 

Principal Investigator is an advanced researcher. An advanced researcher is a person holding a doctoral degree who in the past 10 years prior to the submission of the proposal has:

  1. published at least five publications in reputable Polish and/or foreign scientific journals,
  2. supervised the implementation of at least two completed research projects selected within domestic or international call for proposals,
  3. meets at least three of the following criteria:
    • has published at least one monograph,
    • has given presentations at well-established international conferences,
    • has been awarded an international prize or award,
    • is or was a member of recognised associations or international scientific organisations,
    • was a member of a scientific committee of at least one recognised international conference,
    • has other significant scientific achievements,
    • and in the case of research activities in art – a person who:
      • has created works of art of international importance or significance to Polish culture,
      • has played an active part in international exhibitions, festivals as well as artistic, musical, theatrical or film events.

Duration: 36, 48 or 60 months

Application process: A complete proposal should be submitted via the ZSUN/OSF submission system by September 17th, 2018, together with all necessary documents conforming to the formal requirements set out in the call documentation.

Internal regulations of the Jagiellonian University: 

p>In accordance with the Jagiellonian University Rector’s Directive No. 56 on July 11, 2016 on the rules of procedure for the preparation and implementation at the JU of projects financed from external sources, researchers interested in participating in the call should submit to the CAWP:
  • in the case of a project submitted in a consortium, by 29 August 2018 a draft consortium agreement or guidelines for a consortium agreement - to Ms Ewa Prażuch, phone: 12 663 30 10, ewa.prazuch@uj.edu.pl,
  • until September 5, 2018, a working version of the application sent in a PDF file to the address of the CAWP call supervisor;
  • until September 12, 2018 the final version of the proposal in one copy together with the required documents, i.e .:
    • a printed and signed project registration form,
    • generated and printed from the OSF system "State aid questionnaire" (all questions in the questionnaire should be answered affirmatively) - an unsigned copy,
    • generated and printed from the OSF system, the document titled “CONFIRMATION OF SUBMITTING THE PROPOSAL UNDER AN NCN CALL BY AN AUTHORISED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ENTITY ACTING AS THE PROJECT’S HOST INSTITUTION" - applies to researchers employed at the Jagiellonian University under a contract of employment, or in the case of an application being a natural person: "CONFIRMATION OF SUBMITTING THE PROPOSAL UNDER AN NCN CALL BY A NATURAL PERSON ACTING AS THE APPLICANT",
    • university-wide units that do not receive grants for statutory activities from the science budget are required to attach Annex 1 to the application (according to the NCN call for proposal).

Sending the application by the system is an irreversible operation, making it impossible to make subsequent changes. Therefore, the electronic application should be sent only after obtaining the signatures on the printed version of the State aid questionnaire and Confirmation of submitting the proposal under an NCN call by an authorised representative of the entity acting as the project’s host institution, and in the case of submitting the proposal by natural persons: Confirmation of submitting the proposal under an NCN call by a natural person acting as the apllicant.
