Subject of the competition:

National Science Centre, together with the JPIAMR , is launching a call for international research projects on antimicrobial resistance. 
 
The primary aim of the call is to take action against the growing global threat of increased spread of antimicrobial (antibacterial and antifungal) resistance by funding international collaborative research projects aiming to improve, compare and evaluate the effectiveness, cost effectiveness, and uptake of existing interventions against bacterial or fungal infections and/or to design new interventions against fungal infections.
 
Information on drawing up proposals: 
  • Proposals may be submitted by international research consortia composed of at least 3 research teams from at least 3 different countries participating in the call, with at least 2 from the EU member states or associated countries. 
  • The principal investigator of the Polish research team must hold at least a PhD degree.
  • Countries participating in the call:  Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom. 
  • Research projects may be planned in the call for a period of either 24 or 36 months.
  • Both the minimum and maximum amount of funding are not specified– costs must be justified in relation to the subject and scope of research.
Requirements for the principal investigator: 
  • The principal investigator must hold at least a PhD degree.
  • In a national proposal under the call, no person who is planned to conduct a research activity in the proposal submitted under the MINIATURA call and for whom the funding decision has not become final cannot be designated as the principal investigator.
  • A principal investigator in a proposal cannot be a person for whom, at the time of submitting the proposal, the total number of ongoing through NCN projects and proposals recommended for funding or being evaluated by the NCN is greater than or equal to 3 (excluding proposals submitted or projects financed under DIOSCURI and PRELUDIUM BIS calls).
  • The principal investigator must be a person employed at the host institution for the project for the entire project duration period pursuant to at least a part-time employment contract. The foregoing does not apply to persons receiving pension under the social insurance scheme.
  • The project’s principal investigator shall spend at least 50% of the project’s time on the territory of the Republic of Poland and shall be available to the project’s host entity. This requirement does not apply to travel documented by business trips directly related to the implemented project as well as holidays, time off work and other absences from work regulated by generally applicable regulations
Terms of funding:
  • Under JPND Call 2024, funds can be applied for to cover salaries for members of the research team, salaries and scholarships for students and PhD students, purchase or manufacturing of research equipment and other costs crucial to the research project.
  • Polish applicants in the call are required to send to NCN for consultation a cost estimate of the Polish part of the project in .xlsx format by 23 February 2024, attached as Annex 1 to this RSC Information. Please send the budget table to the following address jolanta.palowska@ncn.gov.pl 
  • The cost estimate must be justified in relation to the subject and scope of the research, be based on realistic calculations and specify the expenses that will be covered within NCN funds (so-called eligible costs).
  • The budget in the joint proposal must be specified in EUR and in the national proposal in the OSF submission system in PLN, rounded down to total values; The EUR budget of the Polish part of the project in the joint proposal must be calculated according to the following exchange rate: 
  • 1 EUR = 4.5329 PLN.
  • As part of the direct costs, the project budget should include the cost of purchasing a qualified signature and its renewal of approximately PLN 370.
  • Indirect costs may not exceed 20% of direct costs. 
  • Additionally, indirect costs of up to 2% of direct costs may be spent on open access to publications and research data. Please include these costs in the planned budget in the maximum possible amount. 
  • The costs of publishing works in the Open Access formula may be incurred only as indirect costs. Planning such measures under direct costs will be treated as a formal error.
  • The information contained in the national application and in the joint application must be consistent and identical.
Form of submitting proposals:
  • Stage I - international level (two stages)
    • preparation by the Polish research team in collaboration with the foreign partners of a joint pre-proposal in English, which the consortium leader submits in the electronic system. Submission deadline for pre-proposals: 14 March 2024, 2 p.m. CET. 
  • Stage II
    • international level: a joint full proposal drafted by the Polish research teams in cooperation with the foreign partners (in English) and submitted to the electronic submission system of the JPIAMR networks. Submission deadline for full proposals: 9 July 2024 
    • national level (single stage): an NCN proposal concerning the Polish part of the project drafted by the Polish research team and submitted to the NCN electronically via the OSF electronic submission system within 7 days of the joint full proposal submission date at international level, i.e. by 16 July 2024

JU internal regulations:

Pursuant to the Ordinance No. 129 by JU Rector of 10 November 2022 on: The procedure for drawing up and implementing projects funded from external sources at Jagiellonian University and hiring and rewarding personnel of the project, persons interested in entering the call (not applicable with JU MC) are asked to deliver to the Polish RSC by the following deadlines:

  • by 4 March 2024 - a completed budget table constituting Annex 1 to this RSC Information in order to verify the costs presented in the pre-proposal; 
  • a Research Project Entry Form and a VAT Eligibility Form filled out in the electronic system JU Project Zone 
In the event that the pre- proposal is qualified for the second stage of evaluation, the call assistant at the RSC will agree with the Principal Investigator on individual dates for submitting subsequent project documents resulting from the qualification of the proposal for the next stage of the call.
