Purpose of the call:

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships (MSCA IF) for research projects aimed at developing the creativity and innovative potential of experienced researchers by working on an individual research project in the academic or non-academic sector within and/or outside Europe. 

Application conditions and rules:

• The MSCA IF action is intended for experienced researchers who, at the closure of the call, have a PhD degree or, in the absence thereof, can demonstrate at least 4 years of research experience.
• The action is addressed to scientists of all nationalities, regardless of their age. Different conditions for mobility apply for each type of project.
• Under the MSCA IF, it is possible to second a researcher from the host institution to another institution based in any EU country or associated to Horizon 2020. The duration of the secondment shall depend on the duration of the project and shall be as follows:
  • for grants under 18 months - up to 3 months,
  • for grants over 18 months - up to 6 months.
  • Each secondment should be included and described in the application form.
• In the MSCA IF call, applications are submitted by the researcher in cooperation with the supervisor from the host institution.
• The offer of cooperation prepared by potential supervisors at the Jagiellonian University is available on the Euraxess portal: https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/hosting/host-offers-jagiellonian-university-krak%C3%B3w-msca-if-2020.
• The MSCA IF action covers two types of projects:

1. European Fellowships, which provide a research and training grant from 12 to 24 months in any EU country or associated to Horizon 2020.

Within the European Fellowship grant we distinguish four project subtypes:

• European Fellowship Standard (EF-SF) addressed to all experienced researchers who meet the mobility requirement: they were not in the country of the institution accepting more than 12 months in the last three years before the closing date of the call.
• Career Restart Panel (EF-CAR) aimed at experienced researchers who want to return to a research career after a break of at least 12 months and meet the mobility condition: they have not been in the host institution's country for more than 36 months in the last five years before the closing date of the call.
• NOTE: The Career Restart Panel may implement the grant between 12 and 36 months.
• Reintegration Panel (EF-RI) for experienced researchers - nationals of EU Member States or Horizon 2020 associated countries working in third countries who wish to return to an EU country or Horizon 2020 associated country and fulfil the mobility condition: have not been resident in the country of the host institution for more than 36 months during the last five years before the closing date of the call. The condition for receiving a grant is direct return from one country to another.
• Society & Enterprise Panel (EF-SE) addressed to all experienced researchers who plan to implement the grant in cooperation with the non-academic sector and satisfy the mobility condition: they have not been staying in the country of the host institution for longer than 36 months during the last five years before the closing date of the competition.

2. Global Fellowships, which provide an opportunity to implement a research and training grant in the third country (on a 12 to 24-month secondment basis) and then compulsory a 12-month return to Europe.

The projects are addressed to experienced researchers - citizens of EU Member States or associated with Horizon 2020 - that meet the mobility requirement: not have stayed in the country of the host institution (third country) for more than 12 months within the last three years before the closing date.

The host institution from the third country must provide a letter of confirmation the acceptance of the commitments resulting from participation in the MSCA IF call, attached to the application.

• The European Commission, within the framework of the MSCA IF measure, has foreseen the possibility of using an additional form of support in the form of Widening Fellowships, i.e. grants for researchers who apply together with an institution located in one of the countries of widening, and their applications were highly rated, but due to the exhaustion of the budget they did not receive any funding (only for the European Fellowship).
• These applications (with the prior agreement of the applicant researcher and the host institution) will be transferred to the Widening Fellowships competition, where they will be funded from the Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation area of Horizon 2020 as listed in the ranking list based on the results of the MSCA IF call.

• Consent to participate in Widening Fellowships is granted during the application for MSCA IF in the application.

Basic principles of financing all types of projects:

• The co-financing rate is 100%.
• Funds for a researcher are per person-month:
  • living allowance: 4 880 euros x coefficient factor (for Poland it is 75.5%)
  • mobility allowance: 600 euros
  • family allowance: 500 euros
• Funds for the host institution per person-month:
  • costs of training, research, visa fees, travel expenses, costs of secondments: 800 euros
  • management and indirect costs: 650 euros

In accordance with the Jagiellonian University Rector’s Directive No. 56 on 11 July 2016 on the rules of procedure for the preparation and implementation at the JU of projects financed from external sources, and the Announcement No. 1027.0643.30.2020 of 26 May 2020 regarding: handling of documents regarding projects financed from external sources at the Jagiellonian University, researchers interested in participating in the call should submit to the CAWP:

• by 1 September 2020,
  • Project Registration Form constituting the Annexes 2a to the above-mentioned Regulations, available on the CAWP website: www.cawp.uj.edu.pl tab "Projects" ® "For applicants" ®" Rules for preparing projects at the JU", approved by the Principal Investigator / Author of the project and the Head of the unit in which the project will be implemented (in form of PDF file with a qualified signature or in form of a scan with visible signatures),
  • VAT Eligibility Form constituting the Annexes 3 to the above-mentioned Regulations, available on the CAWP website: www.cawp.uj.edu.pl tab "Projects" ® "For applicants" ®" Rules for preparing projects at the JU", approved by the Principal Investigator (in form of PDF file with a qualified signature or in form of a scan with visible signatures),
  • a working version of the application (sent in a PDF file to the address of the CAWP call supervisor)
• by 9 September 2020, a final version of the application  (electronic version in PDF file, sent to the address of the CAWP call supervisor).

Out of concern for the quality of submitted project applications please consult applications and submit documents to the CAWP in earlier dates than mentioned above.
