Announcing Institution:

National Science Center (NCN) in cooperation with the CHIST-ERA European Coordinated Research on Long-term Challenges in Information and Communication Sciences & Technologies network.

Subject of the call:

The CHIST-ERA Call 2022 will apply for funding for research projects in two subject areas:

1. Security and Privacy in Decentralised and Distributed Systems (SPiDDS)
2. Machine Learning-based Communication Systems, towards Wireless AI (WAI)

International consortia consisting of at least three research teams from at least three different countries participating in the competition can apply for project funding. The head of the Polish team must hold at least a doctoral degree.

Participating countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom.

Funding application process:

• international level: preparation by the Polish research team in cooperation with foreign partners of a joint application in English to be submitted to the CHIST-ERA network electronic submission system (ESS).
• national level: preparation by the Polish research team of a national application for the Polish part of the project, which should be submitted to NCN in electronic form through the OSF system within 7 days after the deadline for submission of joint applications at the international level.

Schedule of the call:

• Deadline for submission of joint applications in the ESS system: February 2, 2023, 17:00 CET.
• Deadline for submission of national applications in the OSF system: February 9, 2023.
• Results of the competition: July 2023.
• Start of project implementation: October2023.

Internal regulations

To be delivered electronically, to the contest supervisor's email address at CWN:

• by January 23, 2023: 
• a working version of the joint application submitted to CHIST-ERA - at least to the extent of the completed Budget Table, in order to verify the cost estimate planned for the Polish part of the project.
• by January 30, 2023:
• a draft version of the application generated from the ZSUN/OSF system in the form of a PDF file - the draft version means the need to complete at least the sections: Applicant, Project Manager, Contractors, Research Plan, Cost Estimate and its justification.
• Project Application Form and VAT Form, completed in the UJ Project Zone system
•  
• until February 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.:
• the final version of the application in the form of a PDF file generated from the ZSUN/OSF system after the application has been locked without the possibility of re-editing, signed with a qualified signature by the head of the UJ organizational unit (i.e., Dean or Director/Director of another organizational unit) in which the project will be implemented; The document should be generated by clicking the "Print PDF" option in the system and giving it a name according to the formula: Name of the project manager, name of the program, date of the document (Kowalski_Jan_CHIST-ERA22_07-02-2023).
• A document generated from the ZSUN/OSF system: "Confirmation of submission of the application by the person representing the entity".
• A scan of the signed document generated from the ZSUN/OSF system: "Confirmation of submission by the Manager" or a document signed with a qualified signature.

Polish applicants in the competition are advised to send the budget of the Polish part of the project (see: Budget table of the Polish research team on the NCN website) in .xlsx format to NCN for consultation by 16.01.2023. The budget table should be sent to alicja.dylag@ncn.gov.pl.
