We would like to kindly inform you that, in accordance with the Announcement of the Minister of Education and Science on the establishment of the programme called “Pearls of Science”, applications for project funding under the above programme may be submitted until 18 February 2022, 4 p.m.
The aim of the new programme of the Ministry of Education and Science is to support entities of the higher education and science system in creating conditions for development of exceptionally talented graduates of first-cycle studies or students after the third or fourth year of uniform master's studies by
enabling them to conduct scientific research under the guidance of an academic tutor.

Terms and conditions of the call:

  • Project funding is intended for the institutions of science and higher education, including the universities referred to in the Act of 20 July 2018 - Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2021, item 478 as amended).
  • The Principal Investigator should be:
    • a graduate of a first-cycle studies who received a bachelor’s degree, engineer’s degree or equivalent in the year preceding the year of the call for proposals under the programme;
    • a student of uniform master’s studies who in the year preceding the year of the call for proposals under the programme, has completed:
      • third year of studies - in the case of studies lasting no longer than 11 semesters,
      • fourth year of studies - in the case of studies lasting no less than 12 semesters and when the student continues education in this course of study;
    • a person who is a Polish citizen and a graduate of a first-cycle studies, completed abroad in the year preceding the year of the call for proposals under the programme.
  • For the first (current) edition of the call, the Principal Investigator may also be:
    • a graduate of a first-cycle studies who received a bachelor's degree, engineer's degree or equivalent in 2020;
    • a student of a uniform master's degree studies who in 2020 has completed:
      • third year of studies - in the case of studies lasting no longer than 11 semesters,
      • fourth year of studies - in the case of studies lasting no less than 12 semesters and when the student continues education in this course of study;
    • a person who is a Polish citizen and a graduate of a first-cycle studies, completed abroad in 2020.
  • The Principal Investigator may be a person who meets all of the following
    conditions:
    • conducts advanced scientific research or high rated artistic work and has at least one significant scientific or artistic achievement as specified in the Annex to the Communication;
    • was not a laureate of the “Diamond Grant” programme;
    • has a proven command of at least one foreign language at a level not lower than B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
    • does not have a master's degree, master of engineering degree or equivalent
      • this does not apply to the first-cycle graduates who received a bachelor's degree,
        engineer’s degree or equivalent in 2020;
    • has an academic or art tutor who will be indicated in the application.
  • Rules for preparing an application and conditions for project implementation:
    • The project may be carried out for a maximum period of 48 months, starting in September/October 2022.
    • The project may not include activities financed with other funds from the state budget and performed prior to the date of the agreement made under the programme.
    • The maximum amount of project funding is:
      • PLN 240,000 for a project in the field of natural sciences, engineering and technology, medical and health sciences or agricultural sciences
      • PLN 200,000 for a project in the field of humanities, social sciences, theology, or the arts
      • The cost of purchasing the research equipment, IT infrastructure or equipment, devices or apparatuses used for artistic activity must not exceed PLN 50,000, however financing this purchase from funds allocated under the programme may only be possible if the applicant does not have or is unable to use the necessary apparatus or infrastructure.
      • The salary costs of the Principal Investigator must not exceed PLN 3,000 per month.
      • Costs related to the academic tutoring and other activities undertaken by the tutor cannot be financed under the programme.
      • Indirect costs must not exceed 10% of direct costs.
      • Basic data of the unit (JU) necessary to complete the application are available at the CWN webpage: www.cwn.uj.edu.pl/en_GB/projekty/dla-wnioskujacych/dokumenty.
  • Form of submitting applications:
    • MEiN requires applications to be submitted exclusively in an electronic form. The application must be completed in the ZSUN/OSF system, after logging in at: https://osf.opi.org.pl/app/
    • Before the application is sent to the Ministry, a PDF file generated from the ZSUN/OSF system must be affixed with a qualified electronic signature by the Head of the applying entity or a person authorized by him/her (i.e. Jagiellonian University Vice-Rector for Research).
    • The signed application, along with the required attachments, is sent electronically by the Principal Investigator via the ZSUN/OSF system.

Please note that submitting an application in the system is an irreversible operation, which makes it impossible to make any subsequent changes in the document. The application should be sent via the ZSUN/OSF system.

Therefore, the application in electronic form should be sent only after obtaining the signatures of JU authorities on the application form. The documents signed by JU authorities will be sent to your e-mail addresses by the call assistants at CWN.

JU internal regulations:
Pursuant to the Ordinance No. 56 by JU Rector of 11 July 2016 on: terms and conditions of the procedure for preparing and implementing projects funded from external sources at Jagiellonian University, persons interested in participating in the call should submit:

  • by 7 February 2022:
    • the draft version of the application (in the form of PDF file), to be checked and verified in terms of formality, to the e-mail address of the call assistant at CWN;
    • The research project application form filled electronically via the JU Project Zone system at the following website: https://strefaprojektow.uj.edu.pl/. Instruction of filling out the form is available at: https://cwn.uj.edu.pl/strefa-projektow;
  • by 14 February 2022 the final version of the application (electronic version sent as a PDF file - document signed with a qualified electronic signature). Required signatures: the tutor and the Head of the organizational unit of Jagiellonian University (Dean or Director/Head of another organizational unit).

Please save the final version of the application generated from the system as a PDF file, naming it in accordance with the formula: Surname and first name of the Principal Investigator, name of the programme, document date (e.g. Kowalski_Jan_PERLYNAUKI_14-02-2022).
