Purpose of the call:
The German-Polish Science Foundation supports research on German-Polish relations in the 20th and 21st centuries with two special competitions. Universities and other scientific institutions in Poland and Germany can apply for multi-year funding of up to €300,000 for partner research projects. The deadline for applications is November 15, 2021. Decisions will be made in April 2022.
Within the scope of the competition "Culture of Remembrance: Media - Conjunctures. Poland and Germany after 1989", cultures of remembrance are to be analyzed and strengths and weaknesses in the perception of the respective neighboring country are to be identified. The analysis will also explain why in some areas there are such large differences between the state of knowledge in society and the results of scientific research. Another important question is which media shape the image of youth history in Poland and Germany today.
With its second special competition, "The German Occupation of Poland 1939-1945: Politics - Terror - Everyday Life - Resistance," the foundation aims to contribute to research into the fate of Poland and Poles during World War II. The Polish-German team of authors will prepare a comprehensive historical study of the German occupation of Poland, taking into account important aspects such as the new borders and occupation regime, forced labor and forced migration, the breakdown of multiethnic Polish society, the fate of Polish culture and education and religious life under the Nazis, the resistance movement, and the immediate aftermath of the war in Poland.
